2 slices wheat bread, 1 TBSP or so peanut butter, 1 large or several small marshmallows;  Butter bread or spray hobo pie iron with oil, spread peanut butter on one slice of bread, cut large marshmallow into three slices and place onto the peanut butter (or sprinkle with small marshmallows), place other slice of bread over marshmallows and toast in the fire for a few minutes to melt marshmallows and toast bread.  Slice and enjoy! David Burke
Contest Entry: May 23, 2002

Ingredients: Pillsbury Crescent Roll Dough (refrigerated section), Butter, Cinnamon-sugar mixture

Coat the pie irons with vegetable oil (if you coat them with butter or margerine, the pies usually stick).Open the crescent roll dough, unroll and place half the dough in each pie iron. Generously butter each piece of dough and pour as much cinnamon-sugar mixture as you'd like into one side only. Close the irons and cook over the fire, turning over every minute or two. Check doneness after about 6 minutes; they should be close.

Entry #3 Portabella Melts
David Burke
Contest Entry: May 23, 2002
Ingredients: Large Portabella mushroom cap, Butter, Slab of mozzarrella cheese.

Butter the pie irons and place the portabella cap in one side and close. Cook over the fire for a few minutes on each side, making sure you sear both sides adequately. Remove from the fire, open the iron and place a slab of mozzarrella cheese on the mushroom. Close the iron and place over the fire for another minute until the cheese is melted. Enjoy.

Variation: if you like things salty, pour soy sauce onto the mushroom before searing.

Entry #4 Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit
Dawn Banks
Contest Entry: May 23, 2002
Scramble an egg and fry up one piece of bacon until nice and crispy. Spray butter flavored cooking spray on both sides of the pie iron. Take 1 large biscuit (if using small ones, use 2) from a can (such as Pillsbury) and divide it in half. Spread out one half and lay it in the iron, place the egg, bacon and cheese (cheddar or american) on it.  Spread out the other half and seal it on top of the bottom half.  Close the pie iron and cook it for about 10 minutes, watching it closely so it doesn't  burn.  The biscuits fluff up nicely and it makes a yummy breakfast sandwich.

Entry #7  WINNER

Second Hand Cheese Steak
Tony Kolodziej
Contest Entry: June 12, 2002
This is a good way to use those left over grilled meats.  Lube up your pie iron with butter or cooking spray. Put on first slice of bread (your choice of white, wheat or soft rye). Chop up or slice thin leftover grilled hamburger, hotdog, chicken, pork or steak and spread on a good pinch.  Add cheese, your choice, slice, chunks, or even grated parmesan. Add thinly sliced green peppers and onions. Give it a splash of italian dressing and/or tobasco. Don't forget a sprinkle of garlic powder and oregano. Top off with second slice of bread. Close it up and cook for 5-10 minutes, turning frequently.  Tap on nearest rock if sticking occurs. You'll be cooking extra at grill time just for the leftovers. Greetings from Wyalusing.

An old favorite with children!

Butter 2 slices of bread.  Place first slice butter-side down on pie iron.  Spread top with well-drained canned crushed pineapple.  Sprinkle generously with mini-marshmallows or cut-up marshmallows.  Place second slice of bread on top, buttered side out and close pie iron.  Toast until marshmallows are melted & pies are golden brown.  Big & little kids alike love them - be careful, they're not too hot when served!
